Lowell High School

Lowell, MA

Project Overview

As a landmark opportunity for the City, the Lowell High School Project provides a revitalized campus for the 3,100-student high school and greater Lowell community.

With four phases of extensive renovations and new construction, the transformed space will better serve the diverse student body that represents over 50 countries from around the world.

The project scope includes construction of a new gymnasium, a new five-story Freshman Academy, renovations to the existing 1980 Building and 1922 Building, and replacement of the existing enclosed pedestrian bridges that provide connections across the campus.

Project challenges include complex phasing requirements, limited laydown space, nearby sensitivities, and working on an occupied and active campus.

The Suffolk team carefully considered the project鈥檚 impact on adjacent sensitivities鈥攊ncluding the historic trolley route and Merrimack Canal that run through Lowell High School鈥檚 campus鈥攁nd established an effective engagement, communication, and outreach plan. Safety as well as maintaining strong relationships with neighbors and the City are Suffolk鈥檚 top priorities.
