Suffolk was selected to perform preconstruction and construction management services for the Logan International Airport Terminal E Modernization project.
While the terminal is fully operational, the construction will be completed in two phases. The first phase will include enabling the addition of four gates and major renovations to the existing terminal. The second phase includes the addition of three gates and associated landside and airside improvements.
On the departures level, the existing checkpoint will be decommissioned and moved to a new location. The current checkpoint will be renovated to accommodate additional concessions and office support space. The ticketing lobby will be extended and integrated with the new addition, and a major reconfiguration of the existing ticketing lobby will be undertaken. This will include new technology, new ticket counter arrangements, kiosks and a new vertical circulation node on the west end of the terminal鈥檚 three-level space connecting from the arrivals level to the departures level. On the mezzanine level, a major re-configuration of the existing Immigration and Naturalization Service Hall will be undertaken. This will entail demolition and will include modifications to existing exterior walls to introduce additional natural light.
On the arrivals level, the Customs and Border Protection functions will be consolidated and/or relocated. The baggage claim hall will be modernized, and the ceiling will open to existing skylights above.
The project also includes the modernization of the central plant with a new co-gen system. The terminal is jointly designed by Luis Vidal and AECOM with the intent to improve the customer experience while increasing Logan鈥檚 capacity to service wide-bodied jets.
