During the Logan Airport Terminal C to B project, Suffolk鈥檚 team needed to remove the Old Tower Pedestrian Bridge with minimal impact to the airport operation.
The goal was to perform the work in one night. In order to ensure a smooth process, pre-planning took almost three months, with 2-3 meetings per week with the entire team, consultants, and owner. Every activity leading up to the removal and demolition of the Pedestrian Bridge was scheduled and planned. During the day of demolition, every 15 minutes was planned out with contingencies in place. The team also spent about $8,000 on feeding the entire team during the night to keep the operation moving. Extremely high winds prevented the team from completing the entire operation in one night, but we were able to completely remove the bridge within 72 hours with no damage to existing conditions. Overall, the team went the extra mile to ensure a safe and successful demolition.
